The true art and success of mystery box placement depends on the viewer’s tolerance for the frequency of mystery box placement and when the mystery boxes are finally opened. At the heart of SILO is the question or the main puzzle for the audience: “Why does this community live in a fake post-industrial concrete hole in the ground?” The beginning of SILO is interesting. The initial “hook”, the setting, the acting, the production values, the cinematography are all good if the viewer likes the whole dystopian genre with a muted tone.
SILO is primarily a slow-burn, character-driven drama with some recurring themes
The fast assembly line of constantly throwing out mystery boxes and the generally slow pace of the plot can become a challenge for the viewer. An Excel spreadsheet can also be useful for keeping track of all the mystery boxes littered throughout the episodes. While some viewers may appreciate the level of detail and pacing, others may have trouble paying attention.
